Do you have to provide a pay stub with your paychecks?

Not exactly a pay stub, but you have to provide a printed report which shows all of the legal information like how much their gross, net, and deductions are. Having a stub as part of a paycheck is probably the easiest way to do this, but lots of companies pay electronically and then create a "stub" -- which really isn't a stub it's a report -- and send that by mail to the employee.

Do all stubs have the same boxes on them?

No. While mandatory deduction boxes are standard, voluntary deduction boxes may be configured in various ways. Also some employers provide a running total of wages and deductions and some do not.

Be careful looking for free paycheck stub downloads! We looked around and couldn't find any, but we found lots of people promising. Some of them even tried to install viruses instead of files. Remember that while some parts of a payroll are standard, taxes can vary from city to city. Each company has their own unique voluntary deductions. There's just too many variables to offer a one-size-fits all template. Perhaps you'll get luck and find one. If so, please let us know! We'd like to share it with our other readers.
